Synchro Pro vs Primavera P6: 4D Scheduling for Construction (2026)
Both products have scheduling capabilities. The contract schedule, 4D decisions and update responsibilities determine whether one or both belong in your workflow.
SYNCHRO 4D and Primavera P6 overlap in scheduling capabilities but serve different project workflows. Choose the authoritative schedule and review process first; do not assume every 4D project needs both products.
SYNCHRO can schedule, not just animate
Bentley’s published capability chart lists CPM scheduling, CPM analysis and resource leveling for SYNCHRO 4D, alongside model-based schedules and simulations. It is inaccurate to describe it as having no CPM capability. Bentley: SYNCHRO capabilities.
Oracle’s P6 documentation covers project scheduling, critical paths and baseline comparisons. P6 can remain the authoritative schedule when the contract or owner’s controls require it. Oracle: P6 Professional scheduling documentation.
Choose the workflow before the licenses
Use a schedule-to-model review when the team needs to inspect sequence, access, work zones or temporary conditions. Decide who owns activity logic, calendars, status dates and approved updates. The software choice follows those responsibilities.
If the project already maintains its contract schedule in P6, agree how a dated schedule revision reaches the 4D model and how updates are checked. If scheduling is maintained in SYNCHRO, confirm that the output and approval process satisfy the project’s requirements. Using both creates an integration responsibility; it does not guarantee a better result by itself.
A review example
For a planned equipment installation, identify the activity, model elements, work zone and temporary access route. Review the sequence with the scheduler and responsible trade. Record unresolved assumptions and the decision owner. This is an illustrative workflow, not a claim about a completed client project.

Verify the exchange
Trial a representative model and schedule revision. Compare activity identifiers, dates, calendars and relationships after import. Check unlinked activities and model elements, and identify assumptions about temporary works. Keep the accepted schedule revision attached to each review package.
A 4D animation is an aid to reviewing the represented sequence; it is not proof that an underlying schedule or field plan is accepted. Scope the review and the acceptance owner explicitly.
