BIM / MEPFP Coordination

Multi-discipline MEPFP clash detection in Navisworks, weekly coordination meetings, and full RFI lifecycle management. We federate all trade models, triage the clash list to what actually matters, and drive resolution — every clash caught in the model is a change order prevented in the field.

Service Overview

BIM coordination is the process of federating multi-trade models: structural, architectural, mechanical, electrical, and plumbing, into a single coordinated environment to detect and resolve design conflicts before they become costly field problems. At EZ-VDC, we manage the full coordination lifecycle: from model federation and automated clash detection to weekly coordination meetings and final as-built documentation. Our engineers bring a systems-thinking approach that goes beyond running clash reports: we facilitate resolution workflows, own the RFI log, and ensure every trade leaves each meeting with clear action items.

How We Work
1

Model Federation

We aggregate models from all disciplines into a single Navisworks or Revizto environment, enforcing naming conventions and level alignment across all trades.

2

Clash Detection

Automated and manual clash searches are run using discipline-specific rulesets, filtering construction tolerances and prioritizing MEP-structural conflicts.

3

Coordination Meetings

We facilitate weekly coordination meetings with all trades, using live model navigation to walk through open clashes, assign responsibility, and agree on resolution strategies.

4

RFI Management

Issues requiring design team input are escalated via structured RFIs with model-based attachments, tracked in ACC or your project management platform of choice.

5

As-Coordinated Documentation

At the end of coordination, we produce clash-free coordination drawings, a final report, and the fully coordinated federated model for handoff to construction teams.

Why It Matters
Resolving clashes in the model costs 1/10th what the same problem costs in the field
Reduces RFIs and change orders by 60–80% on coordinated projects
Eliminates the most common cause of schedule delays: trade conflicts discovered in the field
Creates a full accountability trail from clash detection through to resolution
Enables prefabrication and modular construction by validating clearances in advance
Frequently Asked Questions

What deliverables do we receive from BIM coordination?

At project completion you receive: clash-free coordination drawings for all disciplines, a final clash detection report, the fully coordinated federated model, a complete RFI log with resolutions, and meeting minutes from all coordination sessions. Interim deliverables include weekly clash status reports and updated coordination drawings at each milestone.

How much does BIM coordination cost?

BIM coordination is typically scoped as a percentage of construction cost (0.2–0.8% depending on project complexity and MEP density) or as a fixed fee based on gross square footage, number of disciplines, and coordination duration. A 200,000 SF hospital with 10+ trades typically runs $80,000–$180,000. We provide fixed-fee proposals based on your specific scope.

What LOD do you model to for coordination?

MEP systems are modeled to LOD 350 for coordination — that means all equipment, hangers, supports, and insulation are included. Structural and architectural elements are typically at LOD 300. For prefabrication coordination, specific systems may require LOD 400. LOD requirements per discipline are agreed in the BIM Execution Plan before coordination begins.

Can you coordinate models our subcontractors have already started?

Yes. We regularly federate and coordinate models produced by multiple trade subcontractors, regardless of which firm produced them. We audit incoming models for naming compliance, coordinate system alignment, and minimum LOD before accepting them into the federated environment, and work directly with the producing trades to bring them up to standard.

How long does BIM coordination take on a typical project?

A 200,000–300,000 SF building typically requires 3–6 months of active coordination, running in parallel with construction documents and preconstruction. Larger or more complex projects (pharmaceutical, healthcare) can run 6–12 months. Coordination should start during design development — beginning at GMP is damage control, not proactive coordination.
