VDC Consulting for General Contractors
General contractors who want to level up their VDC capabilities or who need project-level VDC management on a complex job need more than a BIM coordinator. They need a VDC strategist who understands construction operations, owner expectations, and how to build a VDC program that actually works on the jobsite.
BEP That Gets Used
Most BIM Execution Plans are written, approved, and never opened again. A good BEP is a living project tool it governs model coordination meetings, defines who does what, and sets the standards that every trade coordinator follows from day one. Writing a BEP that the project team actually uses requires project management experience, not just BIM knowledge.
Trade Subcontractor Coordination
Getting trade subcontractors to deliver usable BIM models at the right LOD, in the right template, on schedule is one of the hardest parts of VDC management. It requires subcontract language, enforcement, and hands-on support that most GCs don't have the internal bandwidth to provide.
VDC Technology Selection
ACC vs. Revizto vs. Procore for coordination. Synchro vs. Navisworks TimeLiner for 4D. Leica vs. Faro for scanning. The right tool depends on the project type, owner requirements, and team capability not marketing materials. We've used all of them on real projects.
VDC consulting starts with understanding what the GC actually needs not what a software vendor says they need. We develop BEPs that are actionable, train project teams to execute them, manage VDC on complex projects where the GC needs senior-level support, and advise on technology selection based on field-tested experience.
What is a BIM Execution Plan and why does it matter?
A BIM Execution Plan (BEP) is the governing document for how BIM and VDC will be used on a specific project. It defines model authoring responsibilities, LOD requirements by phase, coordination meeting protocols, model handoff standards, and technology requirements for all parties. A well-written BEP is the difference between a coordinated project and a data dump.
Can you manage VDC on a project as an embedded consultant?
Yes. We provide project-level VDC management on a consulting basis running coordination meetings, managing the BIM model submission process, facilitating clash detection, and reporting to the project team. This is how most of our long-term engagements work.
We already have a VDC coordinator. What level of support do you provide?
We typically come in as senior VDC oversight advising the in-house coordinator, handling complex decisions (escalated clashes, scope changes, subcontractor non-compliance), and providing the strategic guidance that a junior coordinator can't provide. Think of it as augmenting your team at the senior level.
Do you offer VDC training for project teams?
Yes. We provide training on BIM coordination workflows, Navisworks clash detection, 4D scheduling fundamentals, and BEP implementation. Training is tailored to the team's starting point from "we've never done BIM" to "we need to level up our advanced coordination workflows."
